Sicilian composer and musician Paolo Buonvino has nearly one hundred film scores to his credit. He has collaborated with many of Italy’s leading directors, including Gabriele Muccino, Paolo Virzì, Michele Placido, Giovanni Veronesi, Sergio Rubini, Carlo Verdone, Marco Pontecorvo, Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, Matteo Garrone, Ficarra and Picone, among others, as well as with international directors such as Tom Shankland, Diane Kurys, Joan Carr-Wiggin, Christian Duguay, and Jon Cassar.
He has received numerous awards, including eight nominations for the David di Donatello, winning in 2008 for the soundtrack to Caos Calmo, for which he also received the Nastro d’Argento. He composed the soundtracks for the international series Medici: Masters of Florence, created by Frank Spotnitz and Nicholas Meyer, and for The Leopard (Il Gattopardo), directed by Tom Shankland for Netflix.
Buonvino has collaborated with Franco Battiato, Carmen Consoli, Elisa, Negramaro, Jovanotti, Fiorella Mannoia, Malika Ayane, Skin, Mahmood, Diodato, Gianna Nannini, and Andrea Bocelli, for whom he has composed, arranged, and orchestrated numerous productions. He curated the 2021 edition of La Notte della Taranta, which later became the recording project Taranta Reimagined. In 2022, he composed the opera çiatu, commissioned by the Venice Biennale Musica.
